SHILLONG: The State Government has decided to sanction Rs. 1 crore to each of the 39 Community Development (CD) Blocks in Meghalaya for upgradation of the existing roads into all-weather ones.
Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma made the announcement while launching the Chief Minister’s Career Guidance and Counselling Programme (CMCGCP) and the Meghalaya Mission Green under the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme (IBDLP) at Resubelpara, district headquarters of North Garo Hills, on Thursday.
“Empowering with knowledge is the key to empower society,” the Chief Minister said, while informing that the CM’s Career Guidance and Counselling Programme has been launched with the objective of sharpening the competency level of the youth and is not only meant for teaching but also for providing avenues for other extracurricular activities.
Urging the teachers under the CMCGCP to sensitize, counsel and motivate the enrolled youths, Dr. Sangma said that assistance would be provided to ‘schools of music’ to provide added impetus to music.
Speaking on the Mission Green Programme that aims to augment afforestation and increase the green cover, the Chief Minister reminded that there are various interventions under the Mission which targets to convert every village into a green village. Dr. Sangma also informed that an amount of Rs. 40 crore has been earmarked for the establishment of integrated district headquarters in the State.
Dr. Sangma also distributed cheques to educational institutions which would be spent on organizing outreach programmes for students of classes X and XII.
Dr. Sangma also unveiled the foundation stone of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex in Resubelpara.
Among others who spoke on the occasion were Chairman of the State Planning Board SC Marak and Parliamentary Secretary Marthone Sangma.
