SHILLONG: The spurt in incidents of theft has taken a new low with thieves not even sparing the donation box of a religious place.

According to police reports, on the night of February 5, unknown miscreants stole one donation box valued around Rs. 10,000 along with cash Rs. 5,000 from the highly secured Eastern Air Command Campus, Gurudwara, Upper Shillong. The matter is under enquiry.

In another theft case on February 5 evening, unknown miscreants broke into the house of one Brando Lyngkhoi at Mawlai Mawroh, and stole one LED TV, woofers and other items valued around Rs. 17,500.

Large number of cases of theft including house burglary are being reported in parts of Shillong with the police struggling to check the menace.

Adding to the trouble is the power cuts at night imposed by the Government which has become advantageous to the thieves.

The alarming feature about the theft cases is that majority of thieves are juveniles.
