Kohima: A Joint meeting of Dimapur Urban Colonies Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCCF) and Gaon Burha (GB) Union (Sadar) Executive members had a thorough discussion on the Public Distribution System (PDS), BPL Card List and medical reimbursement facility for the BPL through Labour Department and LPG Gas problem.
A joint press release issued by DUCCCF and & G B Union (Sadar) said that the members shared the common problem of anomaly in the BPL list against various colonies and were surprised to find out that the BPL list provided by the Supply Department has almost 95 per cent to 99 per cent of fictitious names in the entire colonies BPL list.
The joint body strongly felt that BPL was only for those genuine Below Poverty Line (BPL) Public and neither for the middle class nor for the privileged class. But it is irony that some well to do individuals owned dozen of BPL Cards.
Calling the act as shameful, the two bodies said Nagas have lost the true virtue of Christianity. The system of corruption and manipulation in the PDS was a modern day example of the Biblical Story of The Rich Man and Lazarus. ‘We all know where the rich man went after his death,’ said the release.
To find out the anomaly in the system the joint body has resolved to constitute a Fact Finding Committee comprising of the DUCCCF & G.B Union (Sadar) executive. This body will check the anomaly in the PDS, functioning of the (un)fair price shop, K.oil distribution and LPG gas problem. It was also decided to jointly supervise every developmental works under taken within the urban Dimapur. As many development projects and schemes were only in the paper and the real implementation at the ground level is unseen. To this end a committee comprising of the Office Bearers of DUCCCF & G.B Union (Sadar) would approach all concern departments which deals with developmental schemes and projects within the urban Dimapur and ascertain the facts, said the press release.
The Joint meeting of DUCCCF & G B Union (Sadar) Executive members stated that the Naga Public have affirmed to stand by the Public Resolution of the 31st October, 2013 Public Rally.
The two Associations, which represent the whole Dimapur urban residents, reiterated its unflinching support to the Action Committee Against Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) movement.
The two associations urge the Councils and GBs of other districts and villages of Nagaland to listen to the cry of the common Naga Public, whom they represent.
The joint body feels that leaders should speak the voice of the grass root public and not subject themselves to be dictated by higher or other influence.
Leaders are to serve the common people and not to become a tool in the hands of others to exploit and act in a way that is detrimental to the interest of common people. (UNI)
