Govt to set up camps for ANVC-B cadres

SHILLONG: After the breakaway faction of Achik National Volunteer Council submitted the list of cadres to the police, the State Government is planning to rehabilitate the militants, around 150 of them, in camps to be opened shortly.

An official of the Home department said that the Government will work out the modalities to provide two camps for the ANVC-B militants to stay.

At present, the militants are camping in make shift dwelling places especially in the jungles of West Khasi Hills, the official said.

Though the list of around 150 cadres was submitted, the ANVC-B cadres are yet to handover the weapons to the police.

The official also said that a vacuum was created in Garo Hills by the security forces as they had to be deployed in Khasi Hills due to the agitation over Inner Line Permit, resulting in Garo Hills based militants gaining more strength.

However, with the deployment of three more companies of para-military forces in Garo Hills, the Government hopes to neutralize the militants to some extent.
