Police claim to have vital leads in Nokrek killings

SHILLONG: The State Police has indicated that it has obtained some vital leads from the ongoing investigation into the cold-blooded execution of three civilians including a MeECL contractor who were killed by Garo militants inside the Nokrek National Park recently.

The case took a new turn with Tura Police, which filed a suo moto case in the incident, placing the lone survivor Manseng N Sangma under arrest following an FIR lodged against him by the family of Rutherford Marak, the slain MeECL contractor. “Police are working on the matter and have got some leads which can only be revealed at a later stage,” official sources said. The arrest of Manseng Sangma was necessitated given that he had been giving contradictory statements on the incident going to the extent of claiming that he did not know the identity of the two other victims who were executed by the militants last Monday.
