KHNAM candidates for February 24 district council polls take a pledge to uphold the party’s ideals even after winning the polls before the memorial stone of legendary Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing at State Central Library on Tuesday.

SHILLONG: To keep its winning candidates intact post the KHADC election, the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) organised an unusual ceremony here on Tuesday whereby all the aspiring MDCs took a pledge to uphold the party’s ideals even after winning the polls before the memorial stone of legendary Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing at State Central Library premises.

“The absence of an anti-defection law allows the MDCs to switch sides after winning the election. This ceremony will wake our conscience so as to enable us to stick to the ideologies of the party and help us in living up to the expectations of those who vote for us,” KHNAM president Pyndapborthiaw Saibon who is contesting from Shella constituency said during the ceremony.

Earlier, the KHNAM candidates also laid a wreath at the bust of Khasi legendary poet U Soso Tham.
