NONGSTOIN: The 12-hour road blockade in Nongstoin called by the five NGOs of Nongstoin comprising of West Khasi Students’ Union (WKSU), Western People’s Movement (WPM), Western Youth Federation (WYF), Western Youth Welfare Council (WYWC), Nongstoin Circle and Hynniewtrep People’s Social Organization (HPSO) achieved a total success on Wednesday.
Buses, Sumos, Tourist Taxis and other modes of transportation plying from Nongstoin to Shillong came to a standstill.
Unlike other days where Nongstoin witnesses heavy traffic congestion in the market area, the roads were unusually traffic free. The vehicular traffic throughout the road blockade was estimated to be as low as 15%.
The attendance of Government servants in the Nongstoin was a dismal 40% with most of the government servants choosing to remain at home on the pretext of the road blockade.
