Restrictions imposed on use of loudspeakers

NONGPOH: District Magistrate Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh on Thursday imposed Section 144CrPC and regulated the use of loud speakers within the district, whether fitted in vehicles or in static position for public meetings stating that this shall be used only between 6 am to 10pm. Loud speakers used beyond the hours prescribed shall be confiscated.

Political parties, candidates and any other person using loud speakers on moving vehicles shall intimate the registration identification number of those vehicles to the authorities granting permission to use the loud speaker and any vehicle on which a loudspeaker is used without the said written permit shall be confiscated forthwith along with the loud speaker.

It is also said that, that political parties, candidates or their supporters using a loud speaker either on a moving vehicles or at a fixed place shall intimate to the Returning Officer of the constituency and local police in writing the full details of the permits obtained by them before using loud speakers. No loudspeakers shall be permitted to be used during the period 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of the poll in any polling area.

The District Magistrate has meanwhile banned the carrying of licensed arms and other lethal weapons and indulging in and any kind of activity by some members of the public that may vitiate the smooth free and fair conduct of elections in Ri Bhoi District.
