SHILLONG: The State level Steering-cum-Monitoring Committee for the midday meal scheme has proposed Rs 90 crore annual plan for the year 2014-15 for implementation of the scheme in Meghalaya.

Additional Secretary, Education department, Akash Deep informed that the State is awaiting the Centre’s approval of the annual plan.

As the State has already spent around Rs 40 crore for the implementation of the scheme in the year 2013-14, the department is hoping that the State would get another Rs 24-25 crore from the Centre.

The Committee also discussed on the nutritional status of the children and decided to appoint an expert to address the shortcomings.

The Committee decided to appoint the expert after the report of the 5th Joint Review Mission of the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development, which was prepared after spot inspection from November 22-30, 2013, questioned the nutritional status of the food being provided to the students in the State under the scheme.
