SHILLONG: Nongthy-mmai legislator Jemino Mawthoh has lambasted the State Government for the pathetic power scenario currently in the State.

While the Government has been boasting about their plans in terms of power generation, Mawthoh said that the present situation proves otherwise.

“It is really sad that this situation has erupted at this time when students are having their examination,” the Nongthymmai legislator said here on Monday.

Despite the claim that there is prescribed timing for the load shedding, he said that the reality is that there is no regulation on the timing of the load shedding.

“Several localities in Nongthymmai are getting irregular power supply though there is announcement of limited power load shedding,” Mawthoh said, adding, “Majority of the people are complaining about frequent power failure. As a public representative, I received complaints not only from people of my constituency but from other areas as well”.

The Nongthymmai legislator also questioned the decision of the Government to privatize the MeECL following which people will have to suffer.

“I would also like to know the status of the power projects which were handed over to several private developers,” he said.

Mawthoh said that faulty management has led to this power crisis.

“I have been informed that the MeECL has pending dues of Rs 650 crore which has to be paid to NEEPCO,” the Nongthymmai legislator said.
