9 held from Iewduh for murdering co-worker

SHILLONG: Nine persons including two juveniles who allegedly killed a co worker of a city restaurant in a gruesome manner were arrested after the worker’s body was found in a gunny bag at the Beef Market at Bara Bazaar (Iewduh) on Tuesday night.

The victim has been identified as Autumn Marak in his twenties hailing from Shella.

Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem on Wednesday informed that on Tuesday night a police patrol party saw five youths running near Iewduh and caught three of the youths who informed the police that they had an argument with some boys.

However, the watchman on duty at Iewduh told the police team that the youths had dropped something in the Beef Market inside Bara Bazaar following which police took the boys to the spot and recovered the body Autumn Marak which was bundled inside a gunny bag. Syiem informed that the victim was killed by the group of boys inside Kimling Restaurant located at Motphran and the victim and some of the accused were working in the same restaurant.

Syiem said the preliminary investigation has indicated that they had an argument after consuming alcohol and they hit the victim with iron legs of a chair.

All the nine persons have been forwarded to the court and police will approach court to seek custody of the accused.

The arrested persons have been identified as Jitu Jamatia (20), Bijay Jamatia (23), Ray Jamatia (18), Anand Jamatia (18), Sanjit Jamatia (18), Surju Jamatia (18) and Raj Rai (18) and another minor aged 17 years. Two other accused – Basla Jamatia (18) and Jitok Jamatia (20) – were absconding.
