Bankruptcy of issues, says Mukul of UDP ‘charge sheet’
SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma on Wednesday challenged the Opposition UDP to substantiate with evidence, their claims that he was having a nexus with militant groups operating in the State.
“Let them prove that I have a nexus with the militants. Do they have the proof?” The Chief Minister questioned, while reacting to the four-point charge sheet of the UDP against him and his Government.
He further stated that if it was possible for anyone to become the Chief Minister of the State just with the help of militant outfits, then what was the need for parties.
“All these malafide allegations have been designed to malign the image of a leader. I pity their bankruptcy of issues,” the Chief Minister said.
Asked for his reaction to the UDP’s charge that the Government was not taking any action against JHADC CEM MB Rymbai despite an FIR being filed against him, the Chief Minister said that the allegation against the JHADC CEM was yet to be proven.
“I don’t know why there are jumping to conclusion. It is interesting that they have come up with the allegations at this time. We have to verify whether there is some political conspiracy behind this,” Dr. Sangma said.
He also reminded that the Government has, time and again, maintained that in the face of any allegation of corruption against anyone – whether politician or high or low – the law will be allowed to take its own course. “Nobody will be insulated,” he said.
Earlier, the principal Opposition UDP had framed a ‘charge sheet’ on four counts against Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma and his Government.
Releasing the ‘charge sheet’ in the form of a booklet titled ‘ABCD of MUA-II’ before the media on Monday, UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh had said that the people of the State have enough grounds to ‘charge sheet’ the Congress-led government due to its inability to probe the alleged nexus of the Chief Minister with militants, the Education scam, the need to arrest scam-tainted JHADC chief MB Rymbai and the inability of the Government to construct the Assembly building for the last 13 years while the Chief Minister had constructed a palatial building for him within six months.
