Balwant denies Bagan

Kolkata: Mohun Bagan failed to take advantage of two gifted goals as Churchill Brothers rode on a spectacular double by Balwant Singh for a 2-2 draw in their I-League fixture on Friday.
Battling relegation, the defending champions exploited Bagan’s fragile defence as an unmarked Balwant put the team ahead with a header in the 36th minute.
A minute later, Churchill midfielder Alesh Sawant scored an own goal while trying to clear the ball.
A foul by goalkeeper Lalit Thapa on Christopher Chizoba gifted the hosts a penalty, converted by the Nigerian. But Bagan continued their winless run as they let in a last minute goal by Balwant through a solo run.
Bagan now have 19 points and are in ninth, while Churchill are in 11th with 15 points. (PTI).
