Lanterns for unelectrified polling stations

SHILLONG: While the people in the city are complaining about load shedding, there are a total number of 26 villages in the upcoming district council elections which are yet to be electrified.
Commissioner and Secretary in charge of District Council Affairs department Jopthiaw Lyngdoh said that as per available statistics, there are total of 26 villages in Ri-Bhoi, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills who does not have electricity.
Taking cognizance of these unelectrified villages, he informed that the West Khasi Hills DC has purchased 50 solar lanterns which would be used in these unelectrified polling stations.
“I would advise the other districts to replicate the same if they have similar requirement,” Lyngdoh said while taking to newsmen here on Wednesday.
