SHILLONG: Though it was promised by the Shillong Municipal Board that it will issue an identity card or a name plate to the genuine parking attendants in the parking lot of Laitumkhrah to check the non-issuance of receipts by parking attendants, but in reality no such measures have been taken in this regard till date.

After it was reported in January that parking receipts are not issued by parking attendants in the parking lot, the SMB which has leased the parking lot to one individual had assured that identity cards or a name plate would be issued to the genuine parking attendants in the parking lots of SMB from February 1 so that unknown persons do not take advantage and fill their pockets.

However, till date, people who park their vehicles in the said parking lot stated that the situation has not changed even after the timeline of the SMB expired long time back.

A person who often parks his vehicle in the parking lot said that the parking attendants are not displaying any identity card or name plate even though the Board may have provided them with the identity card.

Earlier, the Board had also issued show-cause notice to the lessee of the parking lot over the complaints of the drivers who park their vehicles there that they are never issued receipts but nothing is known as what happened to the show cause notice.

Probably the assurance of the Board has gone into a coffin after the Chief Executive Officer of the Board was recently changed.

Some other people who park their vehicle in the parking lot also said that the attendants are not issuing any receipt and people are given receipt only when it is asked.
