Natl Youth Policy launched in WGH

NONGPOH: Along with the rest of the country, the National Youth Policy 2014 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhivan was officially launched on Friday by Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma at Trikrikila, West Garo Hills District.

The function was attended by a large gathering of youth and community members. The programme was organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and NYKS Meghalaya Zone.

The programme which was organized by the NYKS was a part of nationwide programme for launching the National Youth Policy 2014 throughout 623 districts of the country.

While addressing the audience, Dr. Sangma apprised the audience about the aim and salient features of National Youth Policy 2014 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhivan that the central Government had invested more the Rs. 90,000 crore per annum for youth development.

“The main thrust of National Youth Policy is to use the full potential of youth to empower India, by creating productive youth force in the sphere of education, health, employment, Skill Development and Sports. He further stress to instilled Social valves, Community concern and facilitate the youth in participation of politics and governance”, Sangma said.

On view of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhivan, Sangma apprised that throughout the country this scheme envisages over 6500 sports complex in every rural block of the country, each sport complex at block level will be strengthen at the cost of Rs 1.75 crore to build a permanent infrastructure at block level, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhivan involves capital expenditure of over Rs.9000 crore throughout the country.

He expressed that certainly the National Youth Policy 2014 and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhivan scheme will benefit to the every youth of Meghalaya who are living in far flung areas of the state and in urban area. Under this scheme, various activities such as development of infrastructures at the block, district and state level, grooming of young sports talent by organizing sports activities in regular basis, convergence of youth development activities at block level youth resource centers etc. will be taking up throughout the state, he added.
