TURA: The Headmaster of Konarchar Girls UP School in West Garo Hills was brutally attacked by a group of persons for challenging an illegally constituted School Managing Committee (SMC) in the Shillong High Court which had in turn passed an order against it.

According to the FIR filed by the victim, Samiul Islam with the in charge of Garobadha Investigation Centre the incident took place on February 21 when he was proceeding towards the school as usual when the accused – Abdul Mozid Sk, Gazibor Rahman, Razanur Rahman, Rofiqul Islam, Rehena Begum, Rezabul Sk, Enamul Hoque and Morzina Khatun, all belonging to Konarchar Village – accosted him and prevented him from entering the school. He alleged that when he protested the accused attacked him with lethal and sharp weapons with intent to murder causing grievous injuries and it was only due to the intervention of the general public that he escaped with injuries.

The victim while speaking to The Shillong Times informed that there had been frequent conflicts between the two managing committees – one headed by him and the other illegally constituted and headed by Abdul Mozid Sk as the secretary.

The matter had reportedly been brought to the notice of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya who had passed an order that the salary of the teachers may be distributed in Konachar Girls UP School only by the concerned authority. The Court order had gone against the illegally constituted SMC which had angered the accused persons who started becoming violent even threatening the complainant with dire consequences prior to committing the offence.

Meanwhile, police have begun with the investigations and is on the look out to arrest all the accused.
