ASAK against peace talks with GNLA

SHILLONG: The newly-floated militant outfit in Garo Hills Achik Songna An Pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) has opposed peace talks between the proscribed GNLA and Government.

Dura Marak, general secretary of the outfit who called up The Shillong Times on Thursday, went hammer and tongs against the GNLA leader Sohan Shira accusing him of making money in the name of Garo people even as he said that Shira was not fit to represent Garo people.

Accusing the GNLA top brass for violation of human rights, he alleged that 12-13 year old boys have become the slave of Sohan Shira even as he said that the human rights organisations should take the outfit to a task.

According to Marak, some of the office bearers of GNLA had shifted their allegiance to ASAK due to the dictatorial attitude of Sohan Shira.

Marak also alleged that there is a nexus between GNLA leader Shira and state police.

“If police conducts a tight operation in Durrama Hills, Sohan Shira can be hunted down within a week,” he said.

He said ASAK has 120 cadres and out of which around 50 were from GNLA.

When asked if the outfit would come to a peace talk with the Government, he said that the outfit is not in any hurry for talks and they would come for talks only when all corners of Garo Hills is developed.

Recently two cops were arrested for supplying arms to the outfit and reacting to a query, he denied any nexus between ASAK and state police saying they could purchase arms from any one.
