SHILLONG: The much awaited Rs 22 crore slaughter house at Mawlai Mawiong is likely to be completed within June this year.
“The construction firm belonging to Rishan Rapsang has given a commitment to complete the project within June this year,” official sources informed here on Friday.
According to official sources, the construction firm had given the commitment to complete this project within June to Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Deborah C Marak when she inspected the project site recently.
Earlier, the project was supposed to be commissioned before December last year.
When asked about the status of the project, official sources informed that 90 percent of the construction work including the installation of the various machineries which was brought from outside have already been completed.
“We would like to commission the project as soon as possible. We hope that the concerned construction firm will be able to comply with its commitment of completing the project within the fresh deadline,” official sources said. Official sources said that the abattoir would have a capacity of 160 large animals, 240 pigs and 240 small animals (goats) per day. Reacting to a query on the opposition of the two Dorbar Shnong in Mawiong, official sources said that a case has been filed against the Department by the Dorbar Shnong last year but there has been no follow up in this regard.
Earlier, the then Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, BM Lanong, after a spot inspection of the on-going construction work in January 2013, had informed that the project would be complete by April citing that only 20 per cent of the work was left.
