IIMS hosts Vijay Mahajan

SHILLONG: IIM Shillong took the opportunity to host Vijay Mahajan on campus on Sunday. Mahajan, an Indian Social Entrepreneur and founder of BASIX, a social enterprise group has been a very renowned name in business circles.

He was a member of the Committee on Financial Sector Reforms, chaired by Raghuram Rajan and also of the C. Rangarajan Committee on Financial Inclusion. Mahajan serves on the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority, and the Micro Finance Development and Equity Fund. He is the Principal Advisor to the Government of Rajasthan on Livelihoods.

Mahajan stressed the importance of the need to focus on the widening gap between the affluent and the needy in India. He also highlighted the potential that IIM graduates have to bridge this gap by innovative solutions. Although Mahajan stressed on the importance of serving the society, he also mentioned that career was equally important and society can be served in parallel or after gaining experience in the corporate sector for serving the society better.
