Top cadre arrested from tea stall in Police Bazar

SHILLONG: In a setback for the newly-formed Achik National Liberation Central Army (ANLCA), a cadre surrendered before the police while another cadre was arrested on Tuesday.
The ANLCA cadre identified as Charles D. Shira (25) hailing from Dalbot- A, Shallang, West Khasi Hills, surrendered before East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang on Tuesday evening.
He deposited one AK-56 rifle, one magazine of AK-56, eight rounds of 7.65mm live ammunition, one round of 7.62mm live ammunition, eight rounds of .303 ammunitions and one .32 pistol magazine.
He joined ANLCA in January this year through one Sengpan, one of the leaders of ANLCA who was recently arrested in Garo Hills. He had deserted the ANLCA camp located inside the jungle in Dagal area, North Garo Hills one week back along with the arms and ammunition before surrendering.
Meanwhile, SWAT personnel of East Khasi Hills arrested a top ANLCA cadre from a tea stall at Police Bazar on Tuesday evening.
The cadre identified as Rex Briller R. Marak (29) was active in Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills.
He was suspected to be using Shillong as a safe haven for operational planning and to command his cadres in Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills area for terrorizing people by means of extortion, kidnapping for ransom and also murder.
A case has been registered against him at Shillong Sadar Thana. Investigation is on to ascertain his linkages especially with regard to supply of arms.
