SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh came away with a 2-0 victory against Rangdajied United in an U-19 I-League match at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Wednesday, to keep zone leaders Shillong Lajong in their sights.
Each side in the four-team North East Zone have now played four games, with Lajong at the top on 12 points. Wahingdoh have nine, while Rangdajied and Guwahati club have one apiece.
Midfielder Loken Meitei and Vanlalzuia scored a goal each over the junior Blues.
Rangdajied paid the price for some rash football after Donborlang Nongkynrih was sent off in the third minute after being found guilty of a hand ball inside the penalty box.
Loken took the resulting penalty and shot the ball past Rangdajied United goalkeeper Sunshine Kharmuti.
The young Royals made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute when Eijingmut Lyngdoh, moving up the left flank, set up an easy goal for Vanlalzuia.
RUFC pushed hard in the second half and came close to scoring on a few occasions, but were unlucky to find the back of the net.
Royal Wahingdoh will next play against Lajong on March 11 at the JN Stadium at 1:00pm.
Rangdajied will host Green Valley on the following day at the same time and place.
