Imphal: Preparations have begun for the two-phase election to the two Parliamentary seats in Manipur to be held on April 9 and 17.

About 17,39,005 voters are expected to exercise their franchise.

As announced by the Election Commission of India voting for Outer Manipur, reserved for ST, will be held on April 9 while that for Inner Manipur will be held on April 17.

The model code of conduct came into effect immediately after announcement of the election schedule on Wednesday.

Notifications for the elections will be issued on March 15 for Outer seat and on March 19 for Inner seat.

State Chief Election Officer O Nabakishore said as the model code of conduct has been enforced there will be restrictions in government announcing any programme or ministers attending official functions.

T. Ranjit and Kh Radhakumar will be the Returning Officers for Outer seat and Inner seat respectively. Voter verifiable paper may not be widely used during this election, official sources said.

None of the Above (NOTA) button will be used for the first time. (UNI)
