Kabul: Two policemen were killed and seven civilians wounded in a bomb attack on Monday in western Afghanistan’s Herat province, police said.

“The militants detonated an explosives-packed motorcycle, killing two policemen and injuring seven civilians, including a child,” provincial police chief Samiullah Qatra said.

The injured were shifted to a hospital in provincial capital Herat city, the official said, blaming the Taliban for the attack.

The Taliban has intensified subversive activities as the country is preparing for its third presidential and provincial council general elections, slated for April 5.

Up to 10 contenders, including several former ministers and other politicians, have registered to compete for the country’s top post. (IANS)
