Tripura rape survivor complains against police for forcing her to change statement

Agartala: Rape survivor of Murapara village of Jamjuri in South Tripura has lodged a complaint with Director General of Police (DGP) C Balasubramaniam against officer in charge of Kakraban Police station allegedly for pressuring her not to make any statement against the prime accused Biswajit Debnath.

She also alleged that a section of local CPI-M leaders separately met her and threatened to withdraw complaint Biswajit and suggested to stand with the allegation against her husband Shankar Mandal for brutal torture followed by rape.

A senior official of Tripura police said that after receiving the complaint, top officials of police have been directed to investigate the case and provide necessary security to the victim’s family.

After prolonged treatment in Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) the victim had been released and shifted to her house. Soon after her arrival in the house, allegedly Officer-in-Charge of Kakraban Police Station Jatindra Das along with a section of local party leaders started pressurising her to withdraw the statement against Bhowmik.

“They threatened me to record a fresh statement that my husband has tortured me alone, ” the victim complainted to DGP. (UNI)
