Kolkata: Table toppers Bengaluru FC defeated United SC 3-1 in the round 21 encounter of the I-League here on Thursday afternoon to go seven points clear.
Thoi Singh gave Bengaluru the lead just before half time (44th minute), but Eric Brown equalised for the hosts from the spot early in the second period (54th).
However an own goal from Dhanachandra Singh (61st) and a late strike from India captain Sunil Chhetri (89th) saw Ashley Westwood’s side record their fourth away win of the campaign.
The result also keeps United SC very much in the relegation battle as they remain only five points above rock-bottom Churchill Brothers but have played two extra games.
Bengaluru now have 37 points, seven more than Pune FC, but have played one more match.
United remain on 20 points from 19 games. (PTI)
