Husband kills newly wedded wife, stuffs body in gunny bag

Tamil Nadu: Police recovered the highly decomposed body of a 23-year-old newly wedded woman, from a gunny bag from a house at Bodi in this Southern district, on Monday. On noticing foul smell emanating from the rental house that was locked from outside at Periya Pallivasal street, the neighbours shocked to found a gunny bag lying abandoned in the hall with blood stains, through the key hole in the door. They alerted the police. A police team rushed to the house and broke open the door. They recovered the body of M.Ganapathyammal (23), who was married five months ago to one L.Manikandan (27), a coolie labourer from the gunny bag. The body was highly decomposed and the police suspect that the woman might have been murdered atleast five days back and the body was stuffed in the gunny bag. The body bore stab injury and strangulation mark around the neck. The couple occupied the house three months ago on rent. Police suspect Manikandan might have murdered her over suspected domestic squabble and stuffed the body in the gunny bag to dump it somewhere. He was in the house till Sunday and absconding since this morning. A search is on to arrest the culprit. (UNI)

Three electrocuted in Rajasthan

Kota: Three persons were electrocuted while an 11-year boy was seriously injured in separate incidents in Kota and Bundi districts on Monday. Wasim and Anwar, both 30 years, residents of Ghantaghar area in Makabera police station of Kota city, were electrocuted when the duo attempted to put out the flames in their bike which caught fire due to short circuit in the electric transformer. The incident occurred about 2 am on Saturday night. Sub–Inspector Ramkishan said the motorbike, parked under the electric transformer, caught fire due to short circuit in the transformer and the deceased duo rushed out of their home to put out the fire. As they threw water buckets to douse the flames, both of them were electrocuted on the spot. In another incident, a 26-year-old employee of Rajasthan Rajaya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) was electrocuted while working on an electric pole at Alphanager village in Talera police station area of Bundi district. An 11-year-boy was injured due to electrocution this morning when he was playing Holi at Trishuliya village of Hindoli police station area in Bundi district. The boy received severe burns and was rushed to hospital in Kota, said the police. (PTI)

One killed in CISF firing

Chennai: A contract worker was killed on Monday when a CISF personnel opened fired following an argument with a group of workers at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) plant in Tamil Nadu, an official said. “As per available information, a group of people led by contract worker Raja tried to enter Mine II. He has no authorisation to enter the mine area,” the official told IANS over phone from Neyveli, around 210 km from here. He said the group of people turned violent following an argument with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, who reportedly fired at Raja killing him instantly. Soon people from the man’s village assembled at the NLC plant and pelted stones at CISF personnel, he said. Tension prevailed for some time but normalcy was restored after the arrival of police. Youth shot at in Uttar Pradesh

Firozabad (UP): A youth was shot at over a dispute in Tilak Nagar locality of Uttar area here on Monday leading to tension and arsoning by locals. Money Yadav was shot at by Akash alias Vicky with his country-made pistol after an altercation between them during Holi celebrations in Tilak Nagar, Circle Officer (City), Rajesh Chowdhary said. Yadav sustained gun shot on the left side of his chest and was rushed to hospital where his condition was stated to be critical, the officer said. Vicky fled the spot leaving his bike which was set on fire later by Yadav’s supporters who staged a protest demanding his arrest. Heavy police force was deployed in the area and the situation is now under control, the officer said. (PTI)

Latest eToilet model to be unveiled at Delhi fair this month

Thiruvananthapuram: Eram Scientific Solutions Monday announced it will unveil its latest eToilet model at the “Reinvent the Toilet Fair” to be held in Delhi later this month. Eram Scientific, based in the Kerala capital, is an innovator-cum-manufacturer of eToilets. With the launch of India’s first electronic public toilets in 2010, its flagship product eToilet has now crossed more than 400 installations in 10 states. The “Reinvent the Toilet Fair” is being co-hosted by the Indian government’s department of biotechnology and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation March 21-22. The latest eToilet Imperial Model offers salient features like coin/card-based access, self-washing and cleaning mechanisms, sensor-enabled water conservation, automatic seat sterilisation, vacuum flushing mechanism, air-conditioned interiors, touch-free switches, automatic urinal and sensor-enabled wash basin. The toilet fair will also encourage partnerships to improve global sanitation and bring affordable sanitation solutions to people who need it most. Around 50 exhibits will be on display during the two-day fair. K. Vijay Raghavan, secretary of the department of biotechnology, said that of the 1.1 billion people across the world who defecate in the open, almost 60 percent are Indian. “Today, because of a lack of toilets and poorly functioning infrastructure, massive amounts of untreated waste winds up in the environment, spreading disease,” said Brian Arbogast, director of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene team at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Siddeek Ahmed, chairman and managing director of the Eram-ITL Group of Companies, said: “Eram is assiduously working to improve public sanitation through our fully automated and electronically managed toilets, to open the doors to quality sanitation infrastructure to the common man.” (IANS)
