SHILLONG: The proscribed HNLC received a jolt when a senior cadre of the outfit surrendered before the East Khasi Hills SP here on Monday.
The surrendered cadre has been identified as Syiemlieh @ Lungiut of Pyndengsohsaw under Mawsynram police stations.
Syiemlieh, who recently escaped from Bangladesh to surrender before police, did not deposit any arms and ammunition.
HNLC rebuttal: Meanwhile, the banned outfit clarified that youths arrested by police recently in Upper Shillong did not have any link with organization, our Jowai correspondent adds.
In a statement issued by the outfit’s publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said that the outfit suspected that it was a ploy of the police department to demoralise youths who want to join the council.
While condemning the state police, the HNLC further stated that such false accusation would in fact make youth more frustrated and inclined towards joining the Council.
