Meghalaya housing scheme

SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Tuesday informed that the Government was awaiting sanction of funds for the Meghalaya Housing Scheme.
“We have submitted the proposal of fund for the scheme in the current fiscal year,” Lyngdoh informed during Question Hour in the Assembly.
Informing that they were formulating the guidelines under the scheme, the Urban Affairs Minister said that the concerned district administration of the various districts will be responsible in selecting the beneficiaries under the scheme.
“The MLAs can also recommend the list of beneficiaries under the scheme before the committee which is headed by the respective deputy commissioners. The committee will give due consideration to the recommendations made by the elected representatives while finalizing the list of the beneficiaries,” she said.
Meanwhile, Lyngdoh said that the implementation of the rural housing scheme has been discontinued since 2010-2011.
“We have discontinued the scheme since the outcome was not very satisfactory,” Lyngdoh said while also recalling that the distribution of CGI sheets under the discontinued scheme has not really been able to help provide shelter to the poor rural population.
“We would be allotting fully constructed houses to the rural population under the new proposed scheme,” she added.
