KHANAPARA: In a bid to foster unity, understanding and rapport among Khasi and Jaintia students studying in Guwahati, the Khasi-Jaintia Students Union (KJSU) organised the 1st KJSU sports meet, which concluded here recently.
The event witnessed the participation of Khasi and Jaintia students studying in various universities in Guwahati.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw, Dr KM Syiemlieh, and Umsning MDC and EM Youth Affairs Donkupar Sumer, who is also the ex-president of the Khasi Students Union, Ri-Bhoi District.
Others present were the KSU central body education secretary Donald Thabah along with leaders of the KJSU.
Speaking as the chief guest, Sumer congratulated the office bearers of the KJSU for successfully organising this maiden sports meet.
“The sports meet will surely benefit all the participants of the different universities where they can meet new friends and use this meet as a platform to display their talents,” Sumer said.
He also urged them to concentrate on their studies as well, and their hardwork will lead them to a brighter future.
Prizes were distributed at the closing ceremony in the different categories.
RIST University beat GNRC in a tiebreaker among the girls, while Assam Downtown University defeated Combine University in the girls’ volleyball final.
Tug of war was won by GNRC, with Damken University second.
Damken beat RIST 2-0 in the boys’ football.
