Ex-Cong minister joins NPP

SHILLONG: In a boost to the Purno Sangma-led National People’s Party in Meghalaya ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, former minister Manirul Islam Sarkar on Monday left Congress and joined the party at a public rally organized at Chibinang, West Garo Hills.

Sarkar had represented Chibinang area in the Assembly which comes under Phulbari constituency presently being held by Speaker Abu Taher Mondal.

After joining the party, Sarkar expressed his faith in P A Sangma’s leadership and offered to work for his victory in April 9 election.
