JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on Friday approved the Rs 75.18 crore budget estimate for the financial year 2013-14.

The Executive Member in charge Financial and Account Department, Joinriwel Pyrtuh, had tabled the budget on Tuesday.

The estimated expenditure of Rs. 75, 18, 32, 700 is more than the estimated actual receipt of Rs. 74, 44, 10, 000, which is a deficit of Rs. 74, 22, 700.

During the cut motion, Jowai Central MDC, Marki Mulieh questioned the Executive Committee on its policy over the discretionary grant and gratuity relief.

“The discretionary grant and the gratuity relief was meant to be distributed to all 29 constituencies. But the schemes have been distributed only to selected constituencies,” Mulieh said. As per the budget provision, Rs 3 crore each was estimated in both the discretionary and gratuity relief. In the last Executive Committee, both the discretionary grant and gratuity relief was distributed only to Khliehtyrshi-Sohmynting Khliehtyrshi. Opposition members including Ri-io Sten, Chanky Lyngdoh and Shemhok Garod also raised objections to the budget provisions in some of the grants listed. The Chief Executive Member, Thombor Shiwat assured the House that the grant will be distributed equally to all constituencies.
