NONGSTOIN: With the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections barely ten days away, West Khasi Hills district is gearing up for smooth conduct of the election process.
Deputy Commissioner Sylvester Kharlyngdoh while speaking to The Shillong Times informed that measures were being taken to ensure greater turnout during the polling day. He informed that eight armed police personnel and one unarmed personal would be deployed at each hyper- sensitive polling station. In the sensitive polling stations, two armed policemen and one unarmed police constable would be deployed.
The DC also informed that in West Khasi Hills District 16 polling stations have been tagged as hyper-sensitive while 31 polling stations has been listed as sensitive.
Kharlyngdoh also informed that the deployment of forces in the polling stations listed as sensitive and hyper sensitive is subject to change as per the availability of forces.
The polling stations which have been listed as sensitive in West Khasi Hills district are — Nongthliew ‘A’, Nongthliew ‘B’, Pyrda, Nonglyput, Umthlu, Nongkseh, Mawliehlaitdom, Pyndengdombah, Sohtyngkhur, Nongktieh and Umsakhlawmyriaw of Mairang Constituency; Mawthangsyiar, Markasa, Nonglait, Pariong and Nongrilong of Mawthadraishan Constituency; Malang Simanaguri, Dubakdrop, Umshiak, Athiabari ‘A’, Rangsapara, Lejadubi, Kyrshai ‘A’, Kyrshai’B’, Phudumbah and Sawtalad of Rambrai Jyrngam Constituency; Nongspung and Mawrok Porsohsat of Nongstoin Constituency and Pyndenkirit of Mawshynrut Constituency.
The polling stations marked as hyper-sensitive are Mawsmai, Langdongdai, Nongmise of Rambrai Jyrngam Constituency, Nongrathaw (N), Nongjri, Japung, Jynruniangbrak, Wahthre, Dorangre, Shyrkon, Nongriangna, Riangshi Kanshusik, Riangdim, Riangmaw, Maweit and Porkhadoh of Mawshynrut Constituency.
