SHILLONG: Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong has said that it is totally wrong to blame him for the poor turnout in Pynursla constituency during April 9 Lok Sabha election.

Pynursla constituency, which falls under the Shillong Parliamentary seat, recoded 52.65 percent voting, which was the lowest.

Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Saturday, Tysong said that this was not the only occasion when voters’ turnout was low in his constituency.

“If you look at the previous Lok Sabha elections, the turnout in my constituency has always been very low. The reason is that people are not keen to vote during Parliamentary election,” Forest and Environment Minister said.

When asked about the allegation that he had not done enough to motivate people to vote since he was against the candidature of sitting MP Vincent H Pala, he said, “This is not true at all.”

“I have already clarified that I respected the decision of the party high command to allot ticket to Pala. It is true that initially I had opposed his candidature since I was supporting some other contender for the party ticket,” Tynsong said.

He said that as the party legislator, he had tried his best to campaign for the sitting MP.
