Khliehriat 7 Young Star lift invitational trophy

SHILLONG: Khliehriat 7 Young Star came through a tight final to win the 1st Meghalaya Invitation Football Tournament, organised by the Pay For Right Youth and Cultural Club at Malki Ground on Saturday.

The Khliehriat team edged Demseiniong SC 3-2 in front of hundreds of spectators who came out to watch the match.

The two teams scored a goal each in the first half and were locked at 2-2 before Khliehriat stole the game away and took home Rs 50,000 in prize money.

Guests of honour on the day were Matsiewdor War Nongbri, Director Arts & Culture Department, and George Lyngdoh, East Khasi Hills District Sports Officer. The sponsors – Green Valley Industries, Max Cement, Officers Choice, SBI Malki branch, Ramesh Bawri Group and ICFAI University – were singled out for their help in making the tournament possible.

At the prize distribution ceremony, Dilip Wanroy of Phlang Mawsyrpat Lade FC was named Player of the Tournament, while Shahlem Lynshiang (Nohron FC) was the Top Scorer.

Mawlai Kynton Massar Frenz United’s Raymond Mawlong was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper and Maitshaphrang Kharumnuid of Khliehriat 7 Young Star was the Man-of-the-Match in the final.

PFRYCC will host the second edition of the tournament next year and will double the prize money.

Meanwhile, the lucky draw results for the tournament were released by the club. First prize went to ticket number 0398, second prize 0086 and third prize 2554. Winners should approach the club by May 12 with their tickets to claim their prize
