Guwahati: The BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Saturday called upon the voters in the age group of 18-28 years not only to vote for a strong government in New Delhi but also turn canvassers to persuade others vote for a strong government in New Delhi.
Addressing three back-to-back massive election rallies at Bongaigaon, Mangaldoi and Nagaon in Assam’s poll bound constituencies of Barpeta, Mangaldoi and Nagaon, Modi targeting the young voters said, “The period between 18 years to 28 years is the golden period in one’s life as all the important decision regarding education, profession and personal life are taken during that period. Even a day wasted in this crucial period of life may drive one’s life ashtray. This is a period of make or break for all. So, if an inefficient government comes to power in New Delhi after this election during this golden period of your life, what will happen to your life? So, those in the age group of 18-28 years pull up your socks and not only vote but also canvass for a strong government in New Delhi.”
To strike a chord with the people of Assam, Modi in his speeches referred to unabated poaching of the ne-horned rhinoceros in Assam’s wildlife protection areas.
He said rhino which is considered the pride of Assam, must be protected as the attack on the rhino is an attack on the people of Assam.
He alleged that rhinos were being killed, forests cut clear and illegal Bangladeshis were being settled in those lands in Assam under the patronage of a minister in the State.
Modi urged the people of Assam to vote against the party of ‘ma-beta’ (Sonia- Rahul) and ‘baap-beta’ (Tarun Gogoi-Gourav Gogoi) (father-son) in the three election rallies he addressed during his three-hour tour of the state.
He said Congress had been left with no other option but to stoop to telling lies to cover up for the utter failure of its government in New Delhi during the last ten years.
He accused the Congress of betraying the trust of the people and failing to respect the principles of democracy. Modi targeted Sonia-Rahul Gandhi’s mother-son duo in the Centre and Tarun-Gourav Gogoi’s father-son pair in the state in his speeches, accusing them of turning blind eye to the plight of the people.
“You (the people) have given 10 years to ‘ma-beta’ in Delhi and nearly 15 years to ‘baap-beta’ in Assam. But they have failed to eradicate your problems. It is time they are shown their place and voted out of power,” Modi said.
“The winds are blowing in favour of BJP and the pro-BJP storm has now become a tsunami. The results of the election (in favour of BJP) were decided as soon as the polls were announced,” he asserted.
He said that this election was not being fought by political parties or their candidates but by the people who desperately wanted a change for the better.
Referring to massive turn out in all his rallies, Modi said ,“You have given us your love and we will return it with 100 per cent development for all sections.”
Attacking Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for making ‘false promise’s on women security before every election, Modi accused the Congress government of failing to protect girls and women from North East even in the national capital. “Rahul Gandhi comes to Assam and speaks about women safety. Just ask him what the Congress has done for it,” he said.
He questioned Congress president Sonia Gandhi over her government’s failure to check rape of NE girls in New Delhi, where the then state government was also headed by a woman chief minister of the Congress.
Quoting official data, Modi said Assam ranked among top three states with highest crimes against women, while seven of the 10 states at the top of this list were ruled by the Congress and other three by Congress’ UPA allies. “There is not a single BJP-ruled state among the ten states that have recoded highest incidents of crime against women,” Modi said.
Modi lambasted the Congress for failing to spend even a single Rupee from the Rs 1000 crore Nirbhaya fund which was announced in last year’s Union budget after facing public ire following the infamous Delhi gangrape incident of a physiotherapy student.
“Even after failing to spend a single penny from Nirbhaya Fund for women security, the UPA government again announced another Rs 1000 crore in the same fund in the current budget,” he said.
