NGO demands withdrawal of FIR

JOWAI: The president of the Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF) has strongly refuted the allegation charged against him by the former JHADC Chief, Madonbai Rymbai.

“All allegations against me are baseless and the FIR lodged with Jowai Police has no ingredient and no truth”, the JYF president, Poipynhun Majaw informed adding that the fact is that, the former JHADC chief was trying to take revenge for raising the JHADC scam in February last followed by his arrest for threatening the JYF president.

The former JHADC chief, MB Rymbai has alleged that the JYF president, Poipynhun Majaw has demanded Rs. 5 lakh from him.

According to the complaint lodged with Jowai Police on Tuesday, Rymbai alleged that the JYF chief came to his residence at Khliehtyrshi on March 11 at around 8:40 pm in a Maruti Car (ML-05E-1824) and demanded Rs. 5 lakh.

Further, Rymbai alleged that again on April 4, the JYF Chief demanded money from Esterwis Ryngkhlem during the JHADC election 2014 and it is alleged that when Ryngkhlem refused, he (Majaw) threatened to damage the image and political career of Rymbai. Esterwis Ryngkhlem received an SMS from the accused person.

Interestingly, Esterwis Ryngkhlem is the Organising Secretary of the JYF. The SMS which he received in his mobile confirmed that it is not a demand text but it’s a request if he could help the JYF chief as he is in urgent need.

“I took a loan from a friend where I have mortgaged a plot of land which belongs to my wife. The term of the loan expired and the lender was supposed to confiscate the plot of land if I didn’t pay him the amount. So I asked him if he could help me”, Majaw said. I have tried to get another loan not only from the JYF Organising Secretary, but also from other friends but when I failed, I sold my vehicle, he added.

The JYF chief also informed that he had never visited Rymbai’s Residence after a massive scam was unearthed in JHADC on February last.

Meanwhile, the JYF and the JSU held an emergent meeting at JYF office on Thursday afternoon. The JYF and JSU condemned MB Rymbai for filing a false police complaint against the JYF president.

“It is unbelievable, that the former JHADC Chief has taken advantage of the SMS sent to the JYF organising secretary, Esterwis Ryngkhlem requesting for help. It is also shocking to learn that Ryngkhlem who is a JYF member is also a poling and counting agent of Rymbai”, JYF general secretary OL Tariang said.

JYF Jowai City President, Heibormi Pariat, informed that action will be taken against the organising secretary.

“The SMS text to Esterwis Ryngkhlem is not a demand text; it is just a request to help him with a loan for Rs. 5 lakh. Surprisingly MB Rymbai along with Ryngkhlem took advantages and lodged a false complaint against the JYF President”, Pariat added.

JYF general secretary, OL Tariang informed that the joint meeting between JYF and JSU has also demanded immediately withdrawal of the FIR.
