JOWAI: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is targeting to form at least one farmers’ club in every village in East and West Jaintia Hills districts.
The District Development Manager NABARD, Jaintia hills, Teidor Thangkhiew informed this during the formal launching of the Mookyndur farmers’ club at Mookyndur village 15 km from here. Addressing the gathering, Thangkhiew said, “The formation of farmers’ club is an attempt to help organise farmers so as to enable them to take support from various government and non-government authorities and banks besides gaining access to markets.
Each farmers’ club supported by NABARD is being issued a unique number and the club is recognized across the country.” Currently there are only 50 farmers’ clubs in the about 495 villages in both East and West Jaintia hills districts. Mookyndur farmers’ club is the 51st such club formed under the aegis of NABARD.
Mookyndur village consists of 184 household and it is about 15 KM from Jowai, the village is famous for tomatoes and the same is being supplied to different part of the North East region
