Agartala: Agitation against Tripura Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashutosh Jindal for his alleged indulgence of unfair means in conducting election to Loksabha poll in Tripura is taken a serious turn.
While BJP has burnt the effigy of  Jindal on Friday seeking legal action against him by Election Commission of India (ECI), Congress has announced to stage demonstration before all Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers on April 30 next protesting the alleged manipulation and biased role of Jindal in the election.
“The agitation will continue until removal of CEO with initiating legal action against CEO and announcement of re-polling in both the Loksabha seats of the state,” said BJP state president of BJP Sudhindra Dasgupta. He said the detail evidence of manipulation of vote and detail of the biased role of Jindal for ruling CPI-M had been sent to ECI a week ago but the party did not receive any communication from the commission.
Dasgupta however, alleged that Jindal had been directly working for CPI-M since last assembly election right from preparation of electoral roll to deployment of polling personnel in the election.
In every case he was directed and guided by CPI-M leaders and cadres and he had been acting only, which is not only illegal, immoral too for a CEO, he added.
He threatened that the party would go for state wide strike along with other form of movement if ECI fails to take any action against Jindal and hold re-polling with all fair means.
Referring to high casting of vote at the last hour of Loksabha Poll he said ruling party manipulated 25 percent vote in favour of Left Front.
Accusing officials of Election Department for manipulation in voters list he said CPI-M cadres kept evidence of manipulation across the state. However, BJP had failed to attract the attention of ECI officials after lodging complaints.
Meanwhile, Congress announced to launch continuous agitation across the state from April 30 next demanding fresh polls besides action against Jindal for allegedly favoring ruling CPIM, said Party spokesperson Dr Ashok Sinha.
He said Pradesh Congress lodged a formal complaint with all records of poll malpractice ECI against Mr Jindal and demanded fresh poll in both the Loksabha seats. But, no action has been taken so far.
He claimed that election officials reduced the election to a farce to benefit CPI-M. “We have photographs, video footage and documents to establish how the elections were rigged. If the ECI doesn’t take action, we would not sit silent. We would intensify our agitation”, Dr Sinha threatened.
He also rejected the claim of high polling at 84.84 percent in Tripura and stated complete manipulation of poll process was done in all 3095 polling stations.
He maintained, CPI-M politicized and used bureaucracy for the benefit of the party violating the model code of conduct.
Apart from BJP and Congress, all other opposition – Trinamool Congress, Tripura Progressive Gramin Congress and Aam Admi Party demanded re-polling in the state and legal action against Jindal (UNI)
