SHILLONG: The Educ-ation Department is yet to make any fresh appointment of teachers to replace as many as 246 tainted teachers whose services were terminated on February 28 last on the basis of the recommendations of the High Level Scrutiny Committee.
An Education department official said that the though the department had issued termination letters following all legal procedures, it has not made any move to appoint eligible non-tainted candidates.
Though the tainted candidates had sought the intervention of the High Court, it failed to give any verdict in favour of the tainted teachers, but had questioned the higher ups resulting in the present situation.
However, the April 21 order of the Supreme Court gave relief to as many as 40 tainted teachers from East Khasi Hills.
When contacted, the education department official said that the department is yet to receive the order of the Supreme Court.
The education department, however, has decided to seek the opinion of law department before deciding anything on the apex court order which made the High Level Scrutiny Committee on education scam non-functional.
The court had also stayed the order of the Division Bench of the Gauhati High Court for the constitution of the High Level Scrutiny Committee.
