SHILLONG: Pressure is mounting on the State Government to seek amendments from the Election Commission of India guidelines on issue concerning the enrolment of the floating population in the state including the Tibetans.

“We also demand the exemptions, of the Indo-Nepal treaty, so far its applicability in the State of Meghalaya is concerned”, the pressure groups said.

According to the NGOs, since the state government, in the proposed Tenants Verification Bill 2013 and also in the National Population Register has duly recognized the traditional bodies as the Verification Authorities , this can be conveniently extended with regards to the verification of any non-indigenous persons desiring to get enrolled in the voters list of Meghalaya.
