SHILLONG: The work on the regional cancer institute in NEIGRIHMS is likely to take off by the end of this year.
Informing this from New Delhi on Thursday, NEIGRIHMS Director Dr. AG Ahangar said that the proposal is in its final stage.
Keeping in view the large number of cancers cases reported from various parts of the North East, the proposed regional cancer institute would be a boon to the people of the state as well as the region.
The project has been estimated at Rs 163.92 crore and the Centre approved the project recently.
Reacting to a query about any land acquisition problems, the Director asserted that there is no problem with the land acquisition as NEIGRIHMS has enough land and the proposed institute would be constructed in the present premises of NEIGRIHMS.
It may be mentioned that the Central Government has also approved setting up of an undergraduate medical college at an estimated cost Rs.216.11 crore.
