Police clarify on Mawphlang theft

SHILLONG: With regards to Wednesday’s incident of theft at the Sacred Groves, Mawphlang, the East Khasi Hills Police on Thursday clarified that the theft was committed by Macduff Blah and not Skhemlang Lyngdoh Marshillong and Babiangdor Khyriem, as had been reported earlier.

Three unknown miscreants travelling on a vehicle (ML-05D-6307) stole cash Rs. 17,000 and two cell phones belonging to Babilin Nadon, while the Members of World Vision were on a sightseeing trip at the Sacred Groves.

District police chief M Kharkrang on Thursday informed that Skhemlang Lyngdoh Marshillong and Babiangdor Khyriem were actually witnesses to the crime and in the initial stage Macduff Blah had misled the police into believing that Marshillong and Khyriem were involved in the crime.

Later, the stolen item and the cash were recovered from Macduff Blah, who is employed as a guide at Sacred Groves.

The accused has been forwarded to 14 days in judicial custody.
