SHILLONG: The second day of the shutdown call in government offices by HNLC on Friday also failed to evoke any response.

Almost all the State and Central Government offices functioned normally with a high percentage of attendance.

East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal said that the overall attendance in the district was around 96 per cent. The Deputy Commissioner’s office functioned normally with a high attendance of employees.

The four per cent of employees who did not attend the office on Friday are those who are on leave.

The banks which remained closed on Thursday also defied the call of the outfit after being slapped with notices by the Government and kept their branches open throughout the day.

Goyal said that some of the banks had replied to the notice of the Government where they had regretted the inconvenience caused to customers and they had assured that they would keep their banks open on Friday.

The Government had sent notices to about a dozen banks after it was found that the banks had kept their branches closed during the first day of the shut down call by the proscribed HNLC on Thursday.
