SHILLONG: The three-day NCC Group Commander’s Conference, North Eastern Region (NCC Dte NER) concluded here on Friday.
The Conference which deliberated upon several pertinent issues concerning NER was attended by eight group commanders from the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland and Imphal.
Speaking at the conference, NCC Additional Director General, Major General US Dadu, informed that the NCC will upgrade 18 minor units to NCC Battalion with 3520 cadets each in the strategically important seven states.
He also said that State Advisory Committee Meeting (SACM) should be held every year for each state to be chaired by the State Government which acts as an apex committee to resolve all issues connected with the activities of the NCC.
According to Dadu, NCC is already an elective subject in some States of the country in close coordination with CBSE and state autonomous Universities and should be introduced in CBSE schools and autonomous universities in the North Eastern States.
He further added that it was encouraging to see more women enrolling in the NCC in the North Eastern States than in rest of the country.
