Agartala: The Tripura government will challenge in the Supreme Court the Tripura High court order which cancelled the jobs of 10,323 government school teachers.
“The state government had invited the advocate general of the state to give his opinion about the employment policy and the Tripura High Court’s verdict of terminating the jobs of 10,323 teachers. Following his suggestions we have decided to appeal in the Supreme Court to review the judgment,” Chief Minister Manik Sarkar told reporters on Saturday night.
A division bench of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Swapan Chandra Das of the HC had on May 7 terminated the jobs of the teachers as it found that the recruitment was not transparent.
It also asked the state government to arrange fresh recruitment process by December 2014.
The Tripura government had recruited 1,100 post-graduate, 4,617 graduate and 4,606 under-graduate teachers since 2010.
The ruling Left Front has supported the state government’s decision to appeal to the apex court for review of the decision.
A press release by the Front said it had discussed the situation arising out of the termination of the jobs of the teachers and supported the state government’s stand.
The front also condemned the political parties which welcomed the verdict saying about 50,000 people would face hardship due to it.
CPI-M state secretary Bijan Dhar also appealed to the HC to review its judgment on humanitarian grounds.
Major opposition parties in the state – Congress, BJP and Trinamool Congress, had hailed the HC verdict and demanded resignation of the Chief Minister. (IANS)
