Guwahati: The convenor of the North East Regional Political Front and the incumbent chief minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday said that in the event of he being elected to Lok SAbha from Nagaland senior minister in his cabinet T.R Zeliang will succeed him as the next chief minister of Nagaland.
Rio has contested the Lok Sabha polls from the lone parliamentary seat of Nagaland as the candidate of Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) and has exuded confidence to make it comfortably to the new Lok Sabha.
There was hectic lobbying following Rio’s impending exit from state politics.
Rio who was in here on Tuesday said, “ There were two candidates for the chief ministers post,however, one has withdrawn from the race and therefore Zeliang will become the next chief minister of the state.”
PHE minister Noke Wangnao and Planning minister Zeliang were in the race for the post in Nagaland which is ruled by the NPF led coalition Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN). (NNN)
