Guwahati: Altogether 1,47,057 voters, accounting for less than one per cent of the total votes polled, exercised the ‘None of The Above Option’ (NOTA) in the just concluded 2014 Lok Sabha polls in Assam.
The NOTA percentage out of the total 15,067,315 votes polled accounted for 0.98 per cent with Kokrajhar accounting for the highest and Karimganj(SC) the least votes under this category, according to available election results.
In Kokrajhar (ST) constituency, 18,183 electorate pressed the NOTA option followed by 16,809 in Dibrugarh, 16,667 in Tezpur, 14,648 in Jorhat and 12,403 in Kaliabor.
In Autonomous District(ST), Lakhimpur and Mangaldoi 11747, 11204 and 10722 voters respectively exercised their franchise under NOTA.
In Nowgong, Gauhati, Dhubri and Barpeta, 8782, 6720, 5811 and 4785 voters respectively exercised their franchise under this category.
The two constituencies of Silchar and Karimganj(SC) registered the least votes of 4310 and 4266 votes under this category. (PTI)
