SHILLONG: The Garo Hills State Movement Committee held a meeting at Garobadha recently and formed the GHSMC Garobadha Unit. The meeting was attend by various NGO leaders
Speaking at the meeting, Austine B Marak, Organizing Secretary, GHSMC said that the demand for Garoland is not from present generation but from the time of British lead by Sonaram R Sangma, the legendary leader of the Garos.
He also sought the unification of all the NGOs in joining hands together to work for a separate State.
He also lamented that Garos have lost vast area of lands during Independence in Bangladesh in 1947 and in 1972 during the creation of Meghalaya state from Assam.
