Relief for NGH cyclone victims

TURA: The North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, W P Khyllep has informed that as many as 435 households from 71 villages were affected during the cyclonic storm that occurred in the nights of 12th and 13th May in different parts of North Garo Hills District.

According to a statement issued on Sunday the DC informed that altogether 463 houses were completely destroyed, 509 severely damaged and 429 were partially damaged. The number of people affected has been put at 7300. Apart from the damage to dwelling houses there was also extensive damage to horticultural crops and valuable standing trees like Rubber, Sal and Teak, he said.

He further said that the government has sanctioned Rs 56,00,000 lakh and the amount is being released to the BDOs concerned for disbursement to the victims according to their entitlement as a relief measure.

“GR in the form of Rice, Dal and Salt is also being given to 383 households with effect from May 15 as their food stock has been completely destroyed and they are taking shelter in the homes of their neighbours and relatives,” he said.
